The Kraffts, over their three-decade career, cut a striking image as they clamber up craggy cliff faces and across perilous passages between lakes of lava threatening to swallow them whole. It is functionally a biography of two scientists – but also a grand treatise on the seismic thrill of romance, enough to thaw out even the most hardened cynics. It's not difficult to see why: in the hands of director Sara Dosa, it flits seamlessly between archival footage of the Kraffts's many expeditions, fairytale illustrations, and stylised re-enactments of memories preserved in the pair's sprawling diaries. The doomed husband-and-wife duo are the subjects of Fire of Love, a documentary that won an editing prize at this year's Sundance. "To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die": a line immediately inducted into the softboy hall of fame, and also taken a little too literally, perhaps, by Katia and Maurice Krafft – the French volcanologist couple who lived, worked and, yes, perished side by side in a spectacular eruption in 1991. Hope you all enjoyed this post, and I'll see you later.Sorry to invoke Morrissey, but in the pantheon of lovesick declarations, his ballad of mutually assured destruction might be up there with the greats. I loved this song, it's definitely my new favorite song by them. Here are some of my favorite lyrics:Īnd to those that I've betrayed, before I close my eyes and sleep forever, sorry for the pain, but you might've done the same But to put it more specific, it's about being stranded on a planet with no life. As the title may suggest, it's about being stranded with nobody else around. Then Vinny delivers his last bit of vocals and the song ends. The band jams like this for a little bit until we hear that familiar keyboard intro that features this fuzzy guitar. Half way through the instrumental, the rhythm section starts to slow down, and then we hear this beautiful acoustic guitar. Then the song breaks into this rhythm section, which features a very groovy bass, and Vinny performs an awesome guitar solo.

Next we have this instrumental section that starts off with these small guitar riffs, and in between those riffs are some great drum fills.

I also love the acoustic guitar and how well it blends with everything to give off this mystical sound. I love how the keyboard and drums go together during the first section, and the bass is very groovy during the whole thing. Then we have that good chorus again, which ends with Vinny saying "die" and having it echo into this space rock section. Now we have the second verse, which doesn't sound too different from the first, except there are some parts where Vinny harmonizes with himself, which sounds good. Then we have a small guitar solo by Vinny, which kind of sounds like a Kevin Parker solo, but I can't complain. I think Vinny harmonizing with his guitar is pretty cool. The chorus is very catchy and punchy, definitely a good chorus. About half way through the first verse, the bass and drums come in, which provides a good rhythm section to back up that fantastic riff. The riff that plays during the first verse sounds so good with that electric guitar and acoustic guitar fusion. I also love that occasional guitar that pops out sometimes with the riff that is about to be played during the first verse, it's a good touch. The intro sounds like a mixture between the intros for Echoes by Pink Floyd, and Riders On The Storm by The Doors, both of them have intros that make it sound like it's raining. I love that keyboard intro, it almost sounds like it's om space.
